Vacation day 2 of 9. In The Old 77. Coffee with half and half for Patrick from Tout La, the coffee bar in the hotel. Breakfast in our room: cereal with milk, water to drink. We walked to and visited the National World War II Museum, which seems to have some of the slowest elevators in the world along with some of the best WWII exhibits in the world. Afterwards we walked to and lunched at St. James Cheese Company: smokey blue sandwich with roast beef and smoked blue cheese; blueberry hill salad with smoked chicken breast, marcona almonds, and blueberries. iced tea for Patrick, Arnold Palmer for me. Our counter service order delivery took longer than expected. Patrick asked them and they said they were busy and to just wait. A long time passed. Patrick asked them again and they said that our order was missing. Eventually we got our order, and it was revealed that the person at the register had put the wrong number on the ticket, and whoever got the other order had coincidentally ordered the exact same thing and so they simply ignored the dupe. The food was tasty, but we wasted a lot of time because of the error. We walked to and visited the Contemporary Art Center where we saw Gestures of Refusal: Black Photography and Visual Culture. We rode Lyft to the New Orleans Public Library for Patrick to perform a genealogy search in newspapers to identify where his father's father was interred. We walked to the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience and learned they do not have a cafe onsite, so we walked to nearby Mammoth Coffee for pourover iced coffee and bottled water. We returned to and visited the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience. We walked to and sat at the free music festival called Wednesday at the Square in Lafayette Square. The opener for Flow Tribe was SaxKixAve, and it wasn't to our preference so we departed. We had some time to kill before dinner, so we got drinks at a rooftop bar in the Higgins Hotel near the World War II Museum called Rosie's on the Roof which had a Rosie the Riveter theme and some nice views. Pistol Packin' Mama (campfire blend of bourbons, ginger, honey, lemon juice) for Patrick, Skylark (gin, creme de violette, rose water, lemon juice) for me. We initially thought we would have only one round, but it turned into two. Round 2: same for Patrick, Tico Tico (reposado tequila, orange curacao, aperitivo, passionfruit, chamomile, lime juice) for me. Walked to dinner at Cochon Restaurant, sitting at the back along S Diamond Street: sparkling water; boudin balls; shrimp and deviled egg gumbo; hog's head cheese with crackers, pickles, and house mustard; fried crawfish pie; Louisiana cochon with braised green beans, pickled pears, and pork jus. Walked back to the hotel. We channel-surfed the television but found nothing we liked, so on our iPad Air we rewatched the end of Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy because we had gotten groggy the first time we watched.
